About This Episode:
In this episode of “#WalkWithMe” I share a personal formula I’ve developed called a ‘Life Lens’ that asks 7 important questions designed to help me focus on and find fulfillment in what I’m ‘meant to’ do—no matter what.
This forced pause is an opportunity to reassess our values and priorities, and maybe even a wake-up call that the life path we were on may not be the right direction. I call that direction our ‘meant to’. I believe one of the biggest potential regrets is not the months we’re losing right now or the years we’ve lived, but rather that we spend the rest of our lives chasing ‘supposed to’ while missing out on who we’re ‘meant to’ be.
Our ‘meant to’ is really the intersection of three things:
PURPOSE – The impact we’re meant to make on others (contribution)
PASSION – Something that ignites us and naturally gets our emotions going
POTENTIAL – The skills, gifts, strengths and talents we’ve been given or have developed
The intersection of it is your ideal target.
But, HOW tactically do we get there? I want to share a personal formula I’ve developed for more than a decade, spending a lot of time learning and modeling and then distilling all that into simple and practical questions that consistently keep my focus on moving toward my ‘meant to.’
I call it a Life Lens, and this is the first time I’ve shared it publicly in the hopes that you can pull value from it to help discover that sweet spot of purpose, passion and potential.
7 Life Lens questions to stay focused:
1 – What drives you? To move forward, find your fuel. This taps into your values, strengths, what makes you happy. I’m a big fan of Gallup’s StrengthsFinder in finding what drives you.
2 – Where do you want to go? Cast your vision and define specific, actionable and achievable goals.
3 – How do you want to do it? Hope is not a strategy. What are the steps you want to take to achieve your goal?
4 – Who can help me? You don’t have to do anything by yourself. Leverage content on demand. Lean on experts. Find mentors.
5 – Why does it matter? Realize your purpose and mission. Mission is how you bring your purpose to life. Once you tap into this, you become electric.
6 – When will it happen? Put it into practical action by marking it on the calendar. If it doesn’t get scheduled, it doesn’t get done.
7 – What happens if you do all the above? What does your life look like if you stay focused? The other side of that question: What happens if you don’t? The short answer to the latter: If you waste time and waste talent for too long, you waste life.
Answering these questions will help you find focus… and ultimately fulfillment.
