About This Episode:
In this episode of “#WalkWithMe” I challenge us all to shift the script from focusing on problems, to creating solutions that enable us to use our purpose, passion and potential in impactful ways that bring value and service to others.
I had an interesting conversation the other day with a longtime friend who is a spiritual advisor and my personal mentor. Our dialogue was around when we’ll all get through this forced pause—and when it will be over. But then we realized we were focused on the wrong thing: the ending. Instead of putting our energy towards the problem, we needed to shift our perspective with the question: What can we begin?
Where energy goes, focus goes. Or, where focus goes, energy flows. The irony is that the more we focus on the problem, the more we feed it and make it worse. You might have heard the quote: The same level of thinking that got us here will not get us where we want to go. It’s why we need to shift from thinking about the problem, to instead focusing on what we can create towards a solution. Let’s put on our creativity hat, with a lens of service to others and figure out how we can think differently, adapt, adjust or innovate.
I challenge all of us to shift the script from worrying about an ending to innovating a beginning by tapping into the creator in all of us.
I believe all of us have the innate ability to create, so here’s a practical framework that will help you figure out what you’re ‘meant to’ do. Think of your ‘meant to’ as your life compass—the intersection of your Purpose, Passion and Potential.
Here’s some questions that will help you apply this framework to today.
#1 – What can you do right now to bring value and service to others? This is your purpose in terms of how you can impact others through service or contribution.
#2 – What is something you’re passionate about? To make a real difference, you’ve got to put in the work and the time; if you’re not passionate about it, you won’t do it for very long.
#3 – What are you good at? Potential is about your talent, skill, ability…basically your strengths. We all have different strengths and things that come easy to us (natural gifts).
Our ‘New Normal’ will be based on new thinking, new solutions and people who are focused on creating and innovating. And those who will have the most impact will leverage their purpose, passion and potential to help others—and maybe even inspire them to do the same.
What can you create that you’re passionate about, and good at, that can positively impact others?
